Rokid unveils ‘Rokid Max’ Augmented Reality glasses

In Augmented Reality News

March 22, 2023 – Rokid, a Chinese augmented reality (AR) company, has announced its next-generation AR glasses with the launch of ‘Rokid Max,’ which offer a theater-style viewing experience that is equivalent to a 215-inch large screen viewed from 6 meters away, according to the company.

Weighing just 75g, the compact glasses offer an optimal viewing experience that allow the wearer to enjoy a big-screen experience from the comfort of their own home, on the go, in the office, or just about anywhere. Additionally, users can play their favorite video games whilst wearing the glasses to add to the immersion.

Rokid Max builds on the success of Rokid Air AR glasses, but goes beyond being just an upgrade, according to the company. Hui Du, Head of Rokid’s Hardware Design Center, said: “These incredible AR glasses allow commuters to make the most of their time – to enjoy a large screen for watching movies, playing games, browsing, or getting work done, without carrying bulky and expensive computers, hosts, and displays.”

Cinema-grade MAX screen

The 215-inch borderless screen on the Rokid Max is 50% larger than its Rokid Air predecessor and supports a 120Hz refresh rate, according to Rokid. This allows users to immerse themselves in the viewing experience, whilst also being easy on the eyes. Additionally, Rokid Max boasts a field of view (FoV) of around 50 degrees to provide users with a comfortably centered view, whether they are sitting, standing, lying down, walking, or exercising.

Audiovisual features

Rokid Max uses a Sony Semiconductor Solutions microdisplay for a sharper picture quality, which offers a 1920 x 1080p Micro OLED resolution and 600-nit peak brightness. For audio, Rokid Max delivers high-resolution sound that the company states is “on par with major acoustic manufacturers.”

Additionally, the glasses reduce forward light leakage by 90%, enabling Rokid Max to offer users an immersive audiovisual journey in privacy and peace. Rokid also pointed out that the glasses support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), which the company stated allows users to watch a wide range of movies and TV shows worldwide, including various streaming services, subverting the idea that Chinese AR glasses have limited access to digital copyrights.

Myopia-friendly for vision correction needs

Rokid Max’s equipped with seamless myopia adjustment from 0.00 to -6.00 degrees; a single pair can accommodate varying eyesight needs. Rokid added that as a go-to device, Max has been certified by TÜV Rheinland and passed the Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Eye Comfort tests.

Compatibility solutions for the near future

Rokid noted that it is committed to meeting the needs of a diverse user community. At present, making AR glasses compatible with a wide range of different cell phones poses a challenge to the smart glasses industry, according to Rokid. To help address this issue of phone compatibility, last year, the company announced Rokid Station, a portable terminal computing unit for use with its AR smart glasses devices. In its latest Max announcement, Rokid added that Station will be coming to overseas markets soon.
