February 27, 2020 – Google has unveiled a new Search feature thanks to its partnership with the Syndicat Mixte de la Grotte Chauvet. Google Search users are now able to step into the world of the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave in France thanks to Search’s augmented reality feature, as well as virtual reality.

The new AR feature is part of Google Arts & Culture’s latest exhibit “Chauvet: Meet our Ancestors”, and allows users to view France’s Chauvet Cave – a 6,000-year-old art gallery, which is so delicate that it’s closed to the public. The Search feature takes users back 36,000 years to share what the cave was like back then and opens it up to everyone through immersive technology.

Users can experience the caves on a mobile device in augmented reality, here. The immersive virtual reality video can also be viewed here.
