November 22, 2019 – Hello Kitty fans and gamers are now able to pre-register for the location based mobile game ‘Hello Kitty AR: Kawaii World’ that will go live during 2020. The game, which is under production by XR technology company Bublar, will use Amazon Game Tech‘s back-end infrastructure. In celebration of Hello Kitty’s 45th birthday month, an announcement trailer (above) and a landing page have been released.

Hello Kitty is the second highest grossing media franchise, second only to the Pokémon franchise. The global augmented reality phenomenon, Pokémon GO, was released in July 2016, and the game only recently surpassed a lifetime revenue of USD $3 billion to date. If the success of the world’s most popular media franchise is anything to go by, then it is a safe bet to assume that the second most popular will likely see similar success in the augmented reality space.

Fans and players that pre-register will be the first ones to have the opportunity to play the mobile game featuring characters from the Hello Kitty franchise through taking part in the soft launch. During the period until official full launch next year, they will be able to take part in competitions and other activities relating to the game.

The game will be tested on selected geographic markets in the first half of 2020, with an aim of launching in Summer 2020.

“Since her debut in Japan in 1974, Hello Kitty has inspired generations of people around the world with her positive message of friendship and kindness. With this game from Bublar, our dedicated fan base can play with her and the Sanrio characters through their smartphones wherever they are in a mixed reality experience. We are happy to continue sharing the joy of Hello Kitty and the Kawaii lifestyle”, said Jiro Kishimura, Managing Director, Sanrio Co Ltd.

Maria A Grimaldi, CEO at Bublar Group, commented: “We are now able to direct players and fans to our landing page for Hello Kitty AR: Kawaii World. This is the start of creating awareness about the exciting location based mobile game we have in production pipeline. We are happy to include Amazon Game Tech and their cloud infrastructure”.

In the location-based augmented reality game, buildings, roads and parks have been transformed into a fantasy world for Hello Kitty and other characters. The game is based on the Google Maps Platform and is integrated with the Bublar Group platform.
