September 6, 2019 – Marvel, Lenovo, and Vancouver-based VR games studio, Archiact, have announced the launch of ‘MARVEL Dimension of Heroes’, available today only on Lenovo Mirage AR – which consists of the Lenovo Mirage AR headset, dual Universal Controllers, and a Tracking Beacon.

Following the successful launch of Marvel and Lenovo’s Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, the MARVEL Dimension of Heroes augmented reality experience will immerse fans in the popular Marvel universe franchise. The smartphone-powered experience lets players harness the powers of six Marvel Super Heroes in an original story which sees them take on Super Villains from the comfort of their own living rooms.

Users begin by downloading the free MARVEL Dimension of Heroes app onto their compatible smartphone* and inserting it into the tray of the Lenovo Mirage AR headset. The headset senses the user’s movements during gameplay, aided by a Tracking Beacon placed on the floor to serve as its fixed reference point in physical space.

The Lenovo Mirage AR headset includes inside-out positional tracking enabled by two built-in fisheye sensors. The headset pairs with the Lenovo Mirage AR Universal Controllers, which are worn over the knuckles. These allow players to interact with the AR experience through hand and wrist motions, as well with control buttons, which are dynamically adjusted to function on hold release or press, allowing for intuitive open hand gestures.

With the power of the Lenovo Mirage AR headset and the new dual Universal Controllers, players can embark upon an adventure in MARVEL Dimension of Heroes, where they can choose to play as Doctor Strange, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Star-Lord, across the following three modes:

  • Story Mode gives players an original Marvel story experience in which they assume the role of all of the six playable Super Heroes to battle interdimensional forces that threaten the world.
  • Survival Mode lets players use their powers playing as any of the six heroes to fend off waves of enemies. Players compete to achieve high scores and rise up global online leaderboards.
  • Co-Op Mode allows players to partner up with a friend, where they each play as a Marvel hero, battling side-by-side in the same room, while competing against each other for high scores. For Co-Op mode, each player must be equipped with the Lenovo Mirage AR headset, two Universal Controllers, Tracking Beacon, and be connected to the same Wi-Fi network whilst playing the latest version of the app.

Commenting on the launch of the app, Johnson Jia, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Business of Intelligent Devices Group at Lenovo said: “Lenovo Mirage AR with MARVEL Dimension of Heroes is another milestone demonstrating Lenovo and Marvel’s shared passion for bringing rich, immersive consumer experiences to life through smarter technology. After years of close collaboration with Disney starting from Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, we’re excited to expand this incredibly fun and interactive experience for more gamers and especially Marvel fans to enjoy.”

The free MARVEL Dimension of Heroes app is available for download today from the App Store and Google Play Store. Furthermore, the Lenovo Mirage AR device is also now available in the US from Amazon.com and Lenovo.com, for a price of USD $249.99.
