MATRIX integrates AI with 6DoF engine for metaverse world generation

In General XR News

December 28, 2022 – MATRIX Inc., a subsidiary of the MetaReal Group, has recently announced that it has successfully integrated the automatic generation of metaverse worlds using artificial intelligence with the company’s proprietary engine that converts 360-degree images into a six degrees of freedom (6DoF) format using AI.

According to the company, Matrix Genesis Labs (MGL), an advanced technology research prototyping team that looks at how various technologies such as artificial intelligence and Web3 will affect the way people live in the metaverse space in the future, has succeeded in integrating “Project Genesis,” an AI-based automatic metaverse world generation technology, and “Project Dimensions,” the company’s 6DoF movement technology.

MATRIX stated that it believes its success will help to open up the possibility of being able to move freely in an infinite metaverse space continuously generated in real time by AI.

According to the company, current issues that it faces when using images automatically generated by AI include image distortions that do not translate well when it comes to converting into a virtual space. When the company’s 6DoF engine converts a distorted image into three dimensions, these distortions are also rendered in three dimensions, causing the entire space to be distorted as a result.

MATRIX noted that it will continue to further the development of the technologies involved in order to solve the distortion problem.

For now, Project Genesis will be released as a beta version on the company’s reality metaverse platform, DOKODEMO Door.

Commenting on the announcement, the company stated: “By having people experience this technology, we will be able to achieve one of the goals of our metaverse project, and at the same time, we will identify and refine the challenges of Project Genesis.”

With AI becoming increasingly popular as a generation tool for everything from images to videos, audio, code, written content, and more, it seems that the next logical use case for AI would be surrounding the creation of virtual environments. If what MATRIX claims to have created ends up working as well as some of the existing AI-tools that have seen a surge in usage in 2022 (for example, ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, DALL-E, and many more), then it could enable anyone with a 360 photo to create virtual worlds for the metaverse in the near future.
