October 19, 2017 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. will showcase how its newest technologies can be used to assist seniors, at the grand opening of the Thrive Innovation Center in Louisville today. The Thrive Innovation Center is a nonprofit organization with a mission to transform the quality of life and quality of care for the elderly through innovation and education that promotes healthy aging.
By leveraging commercially-available devices such as the Galaxy S8 smartphone, Gear S3 Smartwatch and Gear VR headset, and its SmartThings technology to create a connected experience, Samsung has partnered with healthcare innovators and providers to deliver technology-driven solutions to meet specific senior care needs. Solutions highlighted at the Thrive Innovation Center include:
- Relumino – Uses Samsung’s Gear VR technology and vision enhancement processing to recreate images captured by Galaxy smartphones, such as the flagship S8 and S8+. The recreated images are then customized to address specific vision issues, such as macular degeneration, cataracts and severe myopia.
- AppliedVR – Provides an easy to implement virtual reality platform on Samsung GearVR to offer patients clinically-tested experiences to ease anxiety and pain.
- Breezie – A platform built on Samsung’s Knox and Artik frameworks that enables senior care providers to deliver care and services through a personalized tablet interface – helping seniors stay socially connected, mentally engaged, safe and independent.

The Center will open to the public on a permanent basis beginning November 1, 2017.
