Unity completes merger with ironSource to expand its tools and services for game development lifecycle

In General XR News

November 7, 2022 – Unity, a leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, has today announced that it has completed its merger with ironSource, strengthening the company’s position as a provider of end-to-end solutions that will allow developers to create, publish, run, monetize, and grow live games and RT3D content seamlessly.

Unity stated that the combination will now allow it to support developers through the entire development lifecycle as they build, run, and grow immersive, real-time games and 3D experiences into successful businesses. The company added that its tools and services are now “unmatched” in the industry, and Unity is expecting that the merger will help to generate positive free cash flow.

“We’re happy to welcome ironSource to the Unity family and get a step closer to our goal of being the leading platform for a world with more creators in it,” said John Riccitiello, CEO of Unity. “Together, we offer a complete ecosystem for developers to successfully realize and achieve their goals – no matter where they are in the development cycle.”

In a blog post on the announcement, Riccitiello noted that the merger with ironSource is not just about having the tools for building, publishing, operating, monetizing and growing mobile games in one place, but also about connecting them so that they work together to simplify the whole development process.

Unity is hoping to transform the linear mobile game development process into a deeply connected and interactive one, and by integrating ironSource’s products into Unity’s platform, developers will be able to get real-world player and market feedback earlier in the development process. According to the company, this means that developers can learn what players really want, make better games and be on track for a more successful game businesses.

As a result of the merger, Unity stated that game developers will now have access to more tools that help to bridge the gaps between creation and growth, enabling them to deliver a better game experience. If developers choose to monetize their games, they can also now use Unity’s mediation platform LevelPlay to help maximize revenue.

“The driving force behind this industry-changing merger is to create more value for developers across the entire development journey,” said Tomer Bar-Zeev, CEO, ironSource. “We are very excited about the road ahead as we begin integrating our product portfolios more deeply and strengthening the feedback loop between creating great games and growing them into successful businesses. In doing so, we’ll be able to create a world where more creators are more successful than ever before.”

As was previously noted in the initial announcement on the merger earlier this year, in connection with the closing of the transaction, Tomer Bar-Zeev, Shlomo Dovrat and David Kostman have joined the Unity Board of Directors, increasing the number of Board members from 10 to 13 members.
