In Virtual Reality News

November 11, 2022 – Varjo, a maker of professional-grade virtual and extended reality (VR/XR) hardware and software, has this week announced support for Unity and Unreal Engine projects for its Varjo Reality Cloud platform.

Varjo’s Reality Cloud platform is a ready-to-use enterprise software as a service (SaaS) platform that allows real-time VR/XR cloud streaming capabilities, anywhere and at any time to supported devices for professional users.

The solution helps to simplify VR and XR software use and enables professionals of all skill levels to engage, collaborate and take part in 3D projects. Reality Cloud offers support for advanced mixed reality experiences, foveated rendering, and human-eye resolution visual fidelity streaming, all features that are exclusive to Varjo.

Currently, the service is being used by Rivian, Volvo Cars, KIA Motors, and other enterprises scaling their VR/XR workflows, according to Varjo.

Earlier this year, Varjo Reality Cloud streaming for human-eye resolution VR/XR content became available, along with support for Autodesk VRED, and now, there is added support for highly demanding applications powered by Unity and Unreal Engine.

Unity and Unreal Engine are two of the most prominent engines used for software development today and are considered baseline tools for anyone designing in 3D. Now, creators, developers, and architects across gaming, entertainment, healthcare, and more, can stream high-fidelity XR/VR content made using Unity and Unreal Engine from Varjo Reality Cloud.

Varjo noted that the advantages of using its platform include the ability for individuals to easily share VR/XR experiences across teams and devices and scale exponentially across organizations, which can allow for intuitive VR/XR uses for more roles, locations, and hardware.

“Varjo has cracked the code for VR/XR immersive streaming. No other industry players have accomplished cloud streaming with multiple software and devices like Varjo Reality Cloud,” said Urho Konttori, co-founder and CTO of Varjo. “We make it easy for companies to jumpstart their industrial metaverse strategy, and we are excited to extend Varjo Reality Cloud to the developer community with the addition of Unity and Unreal Engine.”

Furthermore, in early 2023, participants will be able to join Varjo Reality Cloud sessions beyond the company’s own portfolio of headsets to enable any user to stream powerful applications across popular iOS (mobile app) and Windows (desktop) devices and other PC-powered VR headsets. Varjo has also stated that in the future it will support untethered VR/AR headsets and specialty manufacturers for mobile and PC devices.

Starting today, Varjo Reality Cloud with cloud streaming support for Unity and Unreal Engine is available for USD $299 per month, per user. Additionally, with the purchase of a Varjo Aero headset, there will be a three-month Varjo Reality Cloud bundle for USD $2,690. For more information on Varjo Reality Cloud, click here.
