Suva and BearingPoint launch Swiss Safety VR, a VR training platform to reduce workplace accidents across Switzerland.
Why it matters
Immersive simulations and training can help reduce the rate of workplace accidents in Switzerland.
VR industry context
The launch of Swiss Safety VR highlights a wider adoption of immersive safety training across construction and other high-risk industries.
August 21, 2025 – Suva, Switzerland’s national accident insurance provider, has partnered with technology consultancy BearingPoint to launch Swiss Safety VR, a virtual reality training platform aimed at improving workplace safety for the more than two million people insured with Suva.
Switzerland records between 260,000 and 300,000 workplace accidents each year, many on construction sites.
In collaboration with BearingPoint, Suva developed a training platform that incorporates virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR, AR, and MR, collectively XR) technologies. The company introduced immersive safety training scenarios that focus on high-risk tasks such as securing heavy loads on construction sites or preventing falls from unprotected areas, and developed prototypes to demonstrate how immersive tools can help convey safety instructions and reduce accidents.
Building on this, the partners developed the Swiss Safety VR platform, designed to be both scalable and user-friendly. The platform features a growing library of 20-minute interactive VR experiences that illustrate the real-world consequences of unsafe practices and provide an alternative to traditional training methods.
To support adoption, the program includes ongoing process improvement, scenario simulation, and “train-the-trainer” services designed to help organizations integrate the system into their internal workflows. Suva and BearingPoint also worked with industry stakeholders, including trade associations and construction firms, to co-invest in VR safety content.
“Together with Suva, we are using virtual reality to deliver practical and effective workplace safety training,” said Matthias Roeser, Partner at BearingPoint. “By combining immersive technology with real-life risk scenarios, Swiss Safety VR makes training more engaging, more impactful, and more scalable.”
Suva stated that the platform is being offered free of charge to organizations across Switzerland, including schools, to broaden and democratize access to VR safety training. The platform is available on the Meta Quest 3 in German, French, Italian, and English.
“The Swiss Safety VR platform allows us to offer truly engaging and effective training experiences that not only motivate participants but significantly improve safety outcomes,” said Nathanaël Bonvin, Programme Manager for New Technologies at Suva.
