March 3, 2021 – Vancouver-based VR games studio, Archiact, has today announced in a blog post that DOOM 3: VR Edition will be coming to PlayStation VR on March 29, 2021.

The company has offered a preview of what it has added to the VR Edition of DOOM 3, which includes:

AIM Controller Support
Players will be able to take the BFG 9000, the Super Shotgun, and every other classic DOOM 3 weapon into their hands. Each piece of gear has been given a fresh coat of paint that players will be able to out up close in VR.

Dynamic Crouching & Cornering
DOOM 3: VR Edition takes full advantage of PS VR’s movement and opens up all new angles on the battlefield, allowing players to duck, turn and peek around corners using their body as the controller.

Body & Arsenal-mounted UI
Archiact has added a wrist-mounted PDA that will show players their Health, Armor, and Ammo. Players will also be able to easily check digital read-outs on weapons and grenades.

Flashlights & Laser Sights
These new VR-only upgrades for weapons will help players to see through the darkness whilst playing.

Archiact also stated that DOOM 3: VR Edition’s comfort options have been built with players of every experience level in mind. As a result, players can choose from a range of play style/control options such as snap-turning or smooth-turning and vignetting or full-view.

Commenting in its blog post, Archiact stated: “Partnering with the incredible teams at id Software and Bethesda Softworks on this project has been a major highlight of our 8 year lifetime, and we can’t wait to share more of it throughout the month.”

Doom 3 is a horror first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by id Software that was first released in 2004. A re-release called ‘Doom 3: BFG Edition’ was published by Bethesda Softworks in 2012. id Software then went on to release another remake titled simply ‘Doom’, which was published in 2016 by Bethesda Softworks. The game received several awards and scored 88% on Metacritic.
