April 12, 2021 – RealWear, Inc., a provider of hands-free head-mounted computers for digital transformation in industry, has recently announced its latest firmware update, ‘Release 12’, which the company states will provide an improved user experience for its device. The update includes new features ranging from enhanced video stabilisation to improved cloud dictation, Android 10 and Dutch language support.
RealWear develops hands-free, voice operated wearable headsets, with its flagship product, the HMT-1, offering a ruggedised, head-mounted wearable Android-class tablet computer that frees a worker’s hands for dangerous jobs. The HMT-1 serves as an all day, collaborative working device that provides frontline workers with 9-10 hours of battery through varied use, according to the company. Batteries are also hot-swappable to avoid downtime or lost progress while working.
RealWear states that through the new firmware updates for the HMT-1, the addition of video stabilisation to the head-mounted industrial wearable category is considered “one-of-a-kind technology” that gives the company the lead from a technology standpoint to deliver augmented reality (AR) experiences. The software provides movement detection, a high degree of accuracy, dynamic blur capture, EVS (Electronic Video Stabilisation) and performance in low power modes.
“Release 12 promises to bring frontline workers even more clarity when out in the field”, commented Jon Arnold, VP of Sales, EMEA at RealWear, Inc. “With many of our customers now reliant on wearable technology, it’s vital that frontline workers can provide the best possible clarity and visibility of a site to their teams and colleagues who may be based remotely. Release 12 addresses this requirement with further language support, improved voice dictation and video stabilisation.”
Release 12 will provide the following updates for the HMT-1:
- Dutch Language Support – Voice commands spoken in Dutch can control RealWear’s operating system and software applications. Cloud dictation (voice to text) is supported with internet connectivity;
- Improved Cloud Dictation – Release 12 introduces an entirely new cloud dictation engine for RealWear’s speech keyboard. According to the company, the new engine will deliver more accurate, responsive and grammatically correct results;
- Android 10 – Release 12 will upgrade RealWear HMT-1’s device firmware and native applications to Android 10, helping to improve device functionality, usability and security;
- All New Realwear Explorer – RealWear Explorer is a free RealWear helper tool that runs on Mac or Windows PC that mirrors the screen of an HMT-1 device, allowing for demos to larger groups of people onto a big screen to show a frontline worker’s point of view perspective, as well as testing apps under development. The RealWear Explorer platform is compatible with both the HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 devices.
