May 20, 2025 – Schemata, an AI company that provides virtual training and simulation for defense and enterprise, has recently emerged from stealth and announced USD $5 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of its spatial AI training platform.
Schemata is developing tools to convert 2D images into photorealistic 3D training environments. The platform uses 3D reality capture to reconstruct real-world spaces, then applies spatial AI to embed contextual information into those assets. This enables the integration of an AI-powered virtual instructor capable of responding to users in real time.
According to the company, its AI Instructor can respond to voice or text input, identify objects in the virtual environment, and offer step-by-step guidance. This apparently allows organizations to build training modules 10 times faster and in a way that is up to 85% more cost-effective than traditional content development methods.
Schemata aims to broaden accessibility to high-fidelity virtual training simulations beyond the specialized training typically reserved for military pilots and elite units, with the company stating that its technology is already in use across sectors such as defense, energy, and infrastructure. The company has also reportedly secured USD $3.4 million in DoD contracts over the past eight months.
“By harnessing the latest advances in generative AI’s reasoning capabilities, we can more effectively parse complex 3D data—and, in turn, gain deeper insights into real-world environments,” said James Brown, Co-founder and CEO at Schemata.
Brown added that the Schemata platform unlocks “copilot”-style training tools and AI-driven productivity gains for frontline and service personnel and those working with complex physical equipment and environments.
“We see a future where spatially-aware AI agents operate with a full context of the physical world—just like frontier language models now operate across digital systems,” added Huy Nguyen, CTO at Schemata. “That’s why we’re connecting AI to rich 3D environments with embedded semantic data. Virtual training is just the beginning of what it can unlock.”
The seed round was led by Owl Ventures, with participation from a16z speedrun, Alumni Ventures, Anorak Ventures, Time Zero Capital, and Plug and Play Tech Center, according to Brown.
