In Augmented Reality News
July 7, 2025 — Last week, a series of posts from X user Luna provided a potential early glimpse into what could be Meta’s next smart glasses. While the company has yet to officially confirm any details, the findings that Luna shared, as well as other industry reports, suggest that a new pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses from Meta, along with an advanced wrist-worn controller, may be nearing release.
What is rumored so far about Meta’s next AR glasses?
According to datamined images and information shared by Luna, Meta’s Hypernova device may be marketed as Meta Celeste. Renders of the glasses appear to feature a small heads-up display (HUD) in one lens, reportedly designed to present simple information such as notifications, navigation prompts, and Meta AI text responses.
Unlike Meta’s existing collaborations with Ray-Ban and Oakley, the leaked designs suggest that these glasses would carry standalone Meta branding and feature a bulkier frame to accommodate the display technology. Unearthed firmware also hints at the inclusion of a mini-game called Hypertrail, potentially offering location-based gameplay inspired by classic arcade shooters.

How will the Meta Ceres EMG wristband work?
The leaked data also points to the inclusion of Meta’s wrist-worn controller, codenamed Ceres, which uses surface electromyography (sEMG) to detect subtle muscle signals in the wearer’s wrist. This technology would enable gesture-based control of the glasses without requiring overt hand movements or spoken commands.
Leaked tutorial images and videos show several potential gestures that build on Meta’s previous demonstrations of neuromotor input, including swiping the thumb over the side of the index finger, pinching and pulling motions, and wrist rotations.
What features might the Meta Celeste AR glasses offer?
The leaked information suggests that the glasses may support a range of functions through their HUD, including:
- Displaying the time, weather, and notifications
- Turn-by-turn navigation, possibly using OpenStreetMap data
- Real-time translation or captioning of spoken language
- Framing and previewing photos and videos using the device’s touch bar
- Access to Meta AI via voice commands or on-screen text
Some assets also suggest Meta has experimented with handwriting recognition using the Ceres wristband, though it is unclear if this feature will be available at launch.

When could Meta’s new AR glasses be released?
Multiple reports, including those from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier in the year, indicate that Meta may unveil the new smart glasses at Meta Connect 2025, which takes place on September 17. If the timeline holds, preorders could open shortly after, with a possible shipping date in October 2025. Pricing is rumored to fall between USD $1,000 and $1,400.
How reliable are these leaks?
As with all pre-release leaks, the information remains speculative. Product names, features, and designs could change prior to any official announcement. While unconfirmed by Meta, the leaks suggest the company is preparing to release advanced smart glasses with gesture-based control, marking another step in its broader AR and spatial computing ambitions. More concrete details are expected at Meta Connect 2025 later this year.
