June 10, 2025 – Doublepoint Technologies, a developer of wearable gesture control technology, has announced a demo of its gesture input system running on Snap’s Spectacles 5 AR glasses, alongside the launch of a new developer initiative, Doublepoint Labs.
Doublepoint stated that the demo highlights how its ‘Doublepoint Kit’ hardware enables advanced, natural gesture input for augmented reality. As one of the first external developers to gain access to Bluetooth connectivity on Spectacles 5, Doublepoint was able to extend input capabilities beyond the headset’s onboard sensors. According to the company, its approach increases gesture tracking range, supports glove use, and helps to overcome occlusion challenges for reliable recognition even when a user’s hands are partially blocked.
Doublepoint offers a commercially available, camera-free gesture controller and to date has seen more than 150,000 users engage with its ‘WowMouse’ software, which enables gesture control on WearOS and WatchOS devices.
Unlike vision-based systems, Doublepoint’s technology uses inertial sensors embedded in a wristband or ring to detect subtle finger movement. According to the company this allows for faster response times and lower power consumption, while also eliminating the need for additional hardware by leveraging existing wearables such as smartwatches and smart rings.
“We’re thrilled to showcase what’s possible when our wearable gesture control technology is paired with a leading AR device like Snap’s Spectacles,” said Ohto Pentikäinen, CEO and Co-Founder of Doublepoint. “As AR matures, companies are increasingly seeking wider use cases for bringing AR technologies to the mainstream. In this advancement, Doublepoint provides the missing layer, gesture input, for more natural and intuitive user control.”
In addition, Doublepoint has today introduced ‘Doublepoint Labs,’ a developer program offering qualified teams a free loaner Doublepoint Kit to build gesture-based AR experiences. The initiative is aimed at developers working across AR, smart glasses (including Snap Spectacles), robotics, and AI hardware, and includes early access to Doublepoint’s gesture-detecting wristband, technical support, and collaboration opportunities.
Doublepoint will be showcasing its gesture control technology at AWE USA 2025 in Long Beach, CA this week. For more information on the company, click here.
