March 26, 2020 – Resolution Games has today announced ‘Glimt: The Vanishing at the Grand Starlight Hotel’, the company’s latest ‘whodunit’ game offering available today for free for the Magic Leap 1 mixed reality device.

Resolution Games is the studio behind several successful XR titles, including: Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs; Bait!; Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!; as well as the first third-party-developed Magic Leap game, Angry Birds FPS: First Person Slingshot.

“As a studio, we’re excited to continue exploring different mediums and expanding our games catalogue with our third title in augmented reality,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games. “This is our second game for Magic Leap, and a lot has progressed with the platform since our first title launched. We’re seeing more potential than ever for augmented reality games and look forward to continuing to innovate in the space.”

In the game, created as part of the Magic Leap Independent Creator Program, the player takes on the role of a top detective in the “psychic division of the Warlock Investigation Bureau.” An unconfirmed number of guests have been reported missing from the Grand Starlight Hotel, and all reports point to illegal magical activity. It’s up to the player in the role of detective to use his or her psychic powers to aid the investigation and find out what really happened that night.

Thanks to spatial computing, the play area and scenes come to life throughout the game in a dollhouse-like environment. To find the culprit, the player must interact and engage with the different scenes, solving a series of different cases by playing out the scenarios throughout the hotel leading up to, during and after the mysterious disappearances.

Speaking in a blog post for Magic Leap, Johan Donwill, Producer for Resolution Games said: “VR, AR and Spatial Computing aren’t add-ons or possible secondary avenues for gaming; they are the next logical steps for games. We are putting all of our energy into making the most of it for all gamers, whether it’s creating a game to ensure someone testing out VR for the first time has a positive experience or delivering a rich, in-depth multiplayer game that keeps enthusiasts/core gamers hungry for more.”

Donwill added, “We have various titles in development across a wide spectrum of platforms, and are also continuing to update and add content to some of our previously-released titles.”
