Virtual Reality collaboration app announces new feature updates, including a VR auditorium environment

November 17, 2020 – Virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) collaboration platform, Spatial, has just released some new feature updates for users on Oculus Quest, Microsoft Hololens, and Magic Leap devices, as well as on desktop and mobile.

The Spatial platform which turns any room into a 3D workspace to help connect remote teams

One of the main updates made to Spatial includes an auditorium that seats 40+ people – to be used for anything from lectures, conferences, to all hands environments. The space was designed by Spatial Co-Founder, Jinha Lee.

Additional updates to the collaboration platform include:

New Integrations & Supported File Types

  • Microsoft Office Suite files supported (2D files: .DOC, .PPT, .XLS);
  • Google Drive, OneDrive & SharePoint integrations – Users can now link existing cloud services and pull files into Spatial.

3D Model Updates

  • Real-life scale for 3D models to adjust models to their actual size.

Controller Updates

  • Improved hand tracking – Users can now teleport to a seat or hotspots in the Quest VR environments + move objects with the thumbstick.

Content

  • Improved text readability on documents;
  • Autosave for all rooms;
  • Larger room boundary to allow for bigger group scenarios ;
  • All MP4 videos now come with looping support;
  • Improved pin button – hides “X” button when engaged. Pinned (locked) objects cannot be closed or edited.

Avatar interaction improvements

  • Including more responsive fist bumps.

Tech Advancements

  • Latest Oculus SDK;
  • ARKit meshing and occlusion on lidar-enabled devices.

Spatial is designed as a virtual solution for a variety of use cases, including educational seminars, experiences and training, brainstorming sessions, immersive presentations, 3D model reviews, as well as being a potential research tool for government agencies and medical departments for Covid specific research. According to the company, users are also custom designing holiday themed Spatial rooms for parties and social gatherings. 

The company continues to expand in the era of remote work, stating that it has seen a 10X increase in usage since the launch of the Oculus Quest 2 in September. To download the Spatial collaborative VR platform, users can simply search for ‘Spatial’ on the Oculus Quest store.
