August 30, 2022 – Snap, Inc. has recently announced the introduction of its new ‘Dual Camera’ feature, offering Snapchat users a new way to capture multiple perspectives at the same time.
On Snapchat there is a new icon in the camera toolbar, and by tapping users can start creating Snaps and Stories, or more polished Spotlight videos, with double the perspective.
Snap stated that the Dual Camera feature provides a creative way for its community to capture exciting moments while being part of the memory. Dual Camera has four layouts including vertical, horizontal, picture in picture, and cutout. Snapchatters can also add Snapchat creative tools, including music, Stickers and Lenses.
Dual Camera is available globally on iOS now, with Android support becoming available in the coming months, according to the company.
Snap also reiterated that it has its own reward program for Spotlight creators, in which it makes available millions of dollars to eligible Snapchatters who create the top Spotlight Snaps.
The move follows a trend currently being seen where larger social media companies are mimicking other viral platforms – in this instance, the viral platform in question is BeReal, a social photo sharing app that notifies users and asks them to post an unedited photo once per day, providing a much more candid photo that provides a more authentic glimpse into the lives of users. Meta made a similar move in mimicking BeReal last month by adding a ‘Dual’ camera mode to its Instagram platform.
