From Virtual to Real: Gorilla Tag Expands Into Toys With New Licensing Deal

In Virtual Reality News

March 16, 2026 – Bonkers Toys, a toy company focused on creator-driven brands and digital media franchises, has this week announced a global master toy licensing agreement with Another Axiom, the maker of the VR game Gorilla Tag. Under the agreement, Bonkers Toys plans to bring Gorilla Tag toys to mass retailers.

Bonkers Toys stated that the product line is anticipated to include plush, figures, and collectibles inspired by the game’s characters and storylines, with toys slated to launch at major retailers across the U.S. in 2027.

What is Gorilla Tag?

Gorilla Tag is a free-to-play VR multiplayer game where players control legless gorillas, using only their hands and arms to run, jump, and climb to play games of tag or infection. First launched in 2021, the game quickly gained popularity and by 2025 had reached 3.7 million monthly active users and 1 million daily active users, contributing to a lifetime total of more than 15 million unique players. Bonkers Toys and Another Axiom noted that in 2026 the game recorded 119,000 concurrent players in VR.

“With a history of successfully bringing the biggest New Media brands to retail, our expansion into the dynamic world of VR with Gorilla Tag is a natural and incredibly exciting next step for Bonkers Toys,” said Dan Meyer, Head of Brands at Bonkers Toys. “This first-of-its-kind partnership perfectly aligns with our mission to bring to life the brands that Gen Alpha kids are passionate about, and we can’t wait for fans to experience their favorite VR game in a new and tangible way.”

Also commenting on the announcement, Jake Zim, CMO at Another Axiom and Head of Monke Business, the company’s IP expansion division, stated: “We love extending our IP with best-in-class creatives, so it was an obvious choice to work with Bonkers to take the Gorilla Tag world to the mass retail toy aisle for the first time ever.”
