July 20, 2026 – LOOOK.AI, a smart mirror platform developed by FFFACE.ME, and shu uemura, a Japanese makeup brand owned by L’Oréal, have recently unveiled an AI-powered smart mirror built into real glass at the brand’s shu:ARTstage flagship store in Omotesando Hills, Tokyo.
Described by the companies as a “first-of-its-kind” in-store technology, the AI mirror is built around an actual reflective mirror, with a digital AI layer placed underneath the glass rather than in front of it. As a result, customers are able to see their own genuine reflection as opposed to an image on a screen from a camera feed, while AI-driven content and analysis appear as a direct part of their reflection. The mirror uses AI-powered 3D Facial Scanning to deliver instant facial insights for makeup artists to translate into personalized beauty recommendations.

The experience begins through a touch interface styled as a digital makeup brush. Once a customer starts an interaction, the mirror guides them through a sequence that includes a full-face scan, a reveal of their face shape, a breakdown of their face ratio, an assessment of feature balance, and a personalized face ID summary.
The summary then combines the captured data into a set of specific recommendations suited to their face, such as brow shaping or contouring techniques, along with a suggested next step such as booking a sit-down session with a shu uemura makeup artist to bring the recommendations to life.

Also commenting on the launch, Nika Mantyka, Co-Founder of LOOOK.AI, said: “A mirror has always been a passive surface. We used the power of AI to shift this paradigm. Our AI mirror doesn’t just show your reflection; it actually sees and analyses you, acting as a beauty advisor to offer the best possible makeup looks and products based on your current appearance. This allows this new tech to blend in organically.”
The AI mirror with 3D faceID scan can now be experienced at shu uemura’s shu:ARTstage flagship store in Omotesando Hills, Tokyo. According to LOOOK.AI, the installation has been built as a permanent fixture at shu:ARTstage, with multiple AI mirror units integrated into a dedicated area of the store.
The company added that the experience will also expand to include a digital connection element, allowing customers to scan a QR code and download a personalized summary card for saving to their phone or sharing on social media, turning a single in-store interaction into shareable content.
