What’s the story?

Cellid, a developer of displays for augmented reality (AR) glasses, partners with Japanese eyewear retailer Megane Top to develop and sell AR glasses under Megane Top’s own brand.

Why it matters

The two companies will work together on every stage of bringing the AR glasses to market, from product development through to market expansion, with Cellid leading development.

The bigger picture

Building AR glasses and selling them draw on different industries, with Cellid supplying the display and optics engineering and Megane Top the eyeglass know-how and nationwide stores.

October 6, 2026 – Cellid, a developer of displays and spatial recognition engines for augmented reality (AR) glasses, has recently announced a business partnership with Japanese eyewear retailer Megane Top. Together, the two companies will collaborate on the commercialization and market expansion of AR glasses to be developed and offered under Megane Top’s own brand and sold through its nationwide network of stores, including the Megane Ichiba chain.

Cellid stated that, to date, it has conducted research and development, as well as hardware development, for AR glasses displays and complete AR glasses systems, centered on its proprietary optical technologies. Under the partnership, Cellid will lead development, providing expertise in optical and hardware technologies required for AR glasses as well as product design, while Megane Top will contribute its expertise in eyeglass product development and sales, together with its established sales network. According to the companies, they will work across every stage of bringing the AR glasses to market, from product development through market expansion.

A product page on the Megane Ichiba website (in Japanese) lists five functions for the jointly developed ‘Linse Display’ AR glasses: navigation, notifications, foreign-language translation, “AI Notes” for meeting minutes and AI-generated summaries, and entertainment, including music. Images on the page show a prototype still in development, so the final glasses and their on-screen display may look different.

The Linse Display AR glasses, developed by Cellid and Megane Top, will be available for crowdfunding preorders from October 23, 2026.

Commenting on the partnership, Masahiro Tomizawa, president of Megane Top, said: “We believe that our business partnership with Cellid represents an important step toward making AR glasses more accessible to a broader range of people as everyday eyewear and further expanding their potential. By combining Cellid’s optical and hardware technologies for AR glasses with our longstanding expertise in eyeglass product development and sales, we aim to create products that offer both the functionality unique to AR glasses and the comfort and design expected of everyday eyewear.

“AR glasses have the potential to significantly transform the future of eyewear. Together with Cellid, we will work to evolve AR glasses beyond a product for early adopters and into eyewear that can be used by a broader range of people in their everyday lives, while contributing to the creation of the next-generation eyewear market.”

Cellid noted that the companies will begin accepting preorders for the Linse Display through the crowdfunding platform GREEN FUNDING on October 23, 2026. Sales through Megane Top’s stores will follow once the crowdfunding campaign has ended.

Finally, Cellid stated that it will “continue to advance research and development aimed at making AR glasses smaller, more capable, and more comfortable to wear, while further enhancing the technologies required for mass production.”
