December 21, 2020 – Norfolk County Council, which went to tender in August for virtual reality (VR) production services as part of the ‘Norwich Castle: Gateway to Medieval England’ redevelopment project, has announced that Heritage Interactive has been awarded the entire contract.
The project, which was for the provision of audio-visual digital media and software was split into four lots, the fourth of these being the VR component, which is intended to explore the archaeology and history of Norwich Castle and its construction.
Based on the initial contract notice documents, it is presumed that the VR aspect of the project will involve the production of VR content for use on VR headsets (model not specified), which will allow guests and visitors to enjoy an immersive experience where they can explore the history of Norwich Castle and see how it was constructed in virtual reality.
The total value of the contract as a whole stood at just under £250,000, with the VR component being allocated just shy of £22,000. In total only three companies bid for the VR portion.
