Red 6 and AERALIS sign MOU to integrate AR pilot training into modular defense aircraft

April 2, 2024 – Red 6, an augmented reality (AR) technology firm that provides applications for military air combat training, has recently announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with AERALIS, a developer of a modular aircraft system.

The two companies announced the collaboration to jointly define the future of pilot training at the world’s premier Military Flight Training conference in London last week, with Red 6 stating that it is confident that the initiative will help to enhance the capabilities and readiness of military personnel.

AERALIS is developing a civil-certified, digitally designed, modular light jet aircraft system to deliver flexible, affordable, on-demand defense capabilities that will allow militaries around the world to “commoditize the economics of air force fleets.”

In collaboration with the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Pyramid team, AERALIS employs an open software architecture that can integrate Red 6’s ATARS (Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System) and future updates directly into the AERALIS system. According to Red 6, this integration will help to bypass costly redesigns and certifications, and will also ensure that military pilots will always have the most advanced version of the company’s training solution available.

AERALIS states that its modular light jet aircraft system will help to transform fleet availability and capability at >60% through-life cost reduction.

“We are delighted to announce this MOU with Red 6, a company at the forefront of synthetic air combat training whose expertise in AR technologies will perfectly complement our innovative aircraft system,” said AERALIS CEO Tristan Crawford. “Working with Red 6 gives us the opportunity to provide a fully integrated augmented reality solution with seamless capability upgrades through life using the cutting-edge AERALIS integrated digital environment. We are looking forward to working together to further enhance our world-leading training solution.”

AERALIS stated that the agreement with Red 6 helps to underscore its determination to see future UK military pilots receive relevant and effective sixth generation-ready training for a Future Combat Air System-enabled Royal Air Force (RAF).

“Red 6 is excited about the prospect of collaborating with AERALIS to enhance our collective influence on the future of UK MOD aviation,” added Daniel Robinson, Founder and CEO of Red 6.
