Immersive Wisdom demonstrates solution for multi-user interaction within a 3D VR geospatial battlespace to US Air Force

September 8, 2020 – Immersive Wisdom, Inc., a provider of a real-time geospatial collaboration platform compatible across augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR), supported by its implementation partner Entegra Systems Inc., has today announced that it has achieved “significant operational success” during Air Force Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) OnRamp #2 for its Air Force program, ‘Project Vanguard’. Joint onramp exercises are the primary mechanisms by which the Air Force can experiment, demonstrate, test and evaluate new ABMS capabilities.

In brief summary, Immersive Wisdom’s software – which was also provided on Apple iPads – allowed multiple users to see and interact with a 3D virtual geospatial battlespace via a touch interface, simultaneously with VR and desktop users.

Project Vanguard, powered by Immersive Wisdom’s software, and driven by the vision of Cameron Conger, the Technical Director of 363d Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Wing at Air Combat Command, has leveraged significant funding from the Air Force’s AFWERX program, as well as the Air Force Research Laboratory/Strategic Development Planning & Experimentation. With operational support from the Air Combat Command and Detachment 3 Agile Battle Lab, Project Vanguard aims to develop the next-generation Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) and targeting capabilities that demonstrated potential at ABMS OnRamp #2.

“As operators and decision makers are even more physically distributed due to our changing world, immersive 3D geospatial collaboration is becoming critical connective tissue for Joint-All Domain Command and Control,” said Mike Appelbaum, CEO of Immersive Wisdom. “At ABMS #2, we proved that we can deliver the power of our platform in real-time on SIPRNet, our customer’s global network.”

Immersive Wisdom stated that its platform integrated with diverse space, air, maritime, and land-based sensor feeds (DataONE) and multiple AI/ML capabilities (SmartONE), in a purely vendor-agnostic manner, providing the ability to conduct immersive JADC2 throughout the entire exercise.

Airmen were able to use Immersive Wisdom live in 3D to perform real-time targeting and command and control of the battlespace across four remote distributed locations (three Air Force, one Navy) on SIPRNet (a system of interconnected computer networks used by the U.S. Department of Defense). All physically distributed users were simultaneously present in an Immersive Wisdom 3D virtual geospatial room, complete with live 3D maps, imagery, and real-time track/sensor data from DataONE.

The company delivered its platform across desktops, virtual reality, and touch tablets, allowing users to work collaboratively and in real-time. The platform provided real-time command and control and situational awareness for Agile Combat Employment scenarios, including the use of customer-provided LiDAR data.

Other capabilities of the platform included:

  • AI detections and predictions (via SmartONE) delivered inside Immersive Wisdom were able to aid operators in their decision making;
  • High-accuracy 3D geospatial data from Vricon integrated within Immersive Wisdom enabled key precision of action.
