June 12, 2025 – Bifrost, a provider of cameraless motion tracking solutions, has recently announced the availability of ‘Lodestar Founders Kits,’ giving developers, creators, and professionals early access to its ‘Lodestar’ radio-based 6-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) tracking system.
Unveiled at AWE USA 2025 this week, Bifrost stated that Lodestar is built for use cases across extended reality (XR), motion capture, virtual production, location-based entertainment (LBE), and robotics, to enable seamless, scalable interaction anywhere.
According to the company, the platform is designed to enable precise spatial tracking of devices, bodies, and props in real time, without the need for cameras, sensors, or external computers. The system utilizes wide-spectrum radio signals to provide reliable 6DoF tracking, even when obstructed by people, obstacles, and most walls.
Lightweight, compact, and portable, Lodestar streams low-latency tracking data to any device and takes minutes to set up. Users need only to place anchors, open the platform’s web dashboard, and the system calibrates itself to any environment in seconds, according to Bifrost. The company also stated: “If it has a USB port, it will work with Lodestar.”
Lodestar’s features include:
- True 6DoF Tracking: Tracks both position and orientation of any object in space. No drift, low latency.
- Reliable: Tracks without line-of-sight and remains accurate in any lighting – indoors, outdoors, or in complete darkness.
- Range: Enables large-scale experiences up to 100 meters across, with zero drift.
- Form-factor: The Lodestar Puck is offers a compact 6DoF tracker that is 4 cm wide and weighs 25 grams.
- Simple Setup: Automatic calibration means setup takes just a few minutes. A mobile-friendly design allows for easier deployment anywhere.
- Flexible Use Cases: Lodestar pucks can be attached to hands, hips, and feet for full-body tracking, as well as to tools, cameras and props.
- Accessibility: Low-latency tracking data can be streamed to any device or OS.
- Web-Based Dashboard: Allows for the configuration and management of Lodestar devices, firmware updates, and performance tuning, all from the browser. No software needed (offline functionality is also supported).
The Lodestar Founders Kit includes:
- Lodestar Pucks x 4
- Lodestar Hub x 1
- Omni-directional Antenna x 1
- 4-in-1 Charging Cable x 1
- Magnetic Tripod/Wall Adapters x 4
Lodestar Founders Kits are available now for purchase as part of a limited release, with availability on a first-come-first-serve basis. The company noted that orders placed now are expected to ship by July 15, 2025.
