W4 Games has closed an $18 million Series B funding round led by Tencent, bringing its total funding raised to date to $33 million, to accelerate its international presence.
Why it matters
The funding lets W4 Games grow its international team by 50% and expand engine-level support for enterprise developers building XR and immersive projects on Godot.
The bigger picture
The Tencent partnership is set to bring go-to-market support, localization and ecosystem advocacy for Godot Engine to studios and developers across Asia.
August 25, 2026 – W4 Games, a company that provides enterprise technology and support for the open-source Godot Engine, including extended reality (XR) and immersive technology development, has today announced it has raised USD $18 million in Series B funding to accelerate its international presence.
The company stated that the funding will help to expand W4 Games’ international team by 50%, accelerate development of its enterprise offering, and support growing demand from enterprise developers using Godot. The round was led by Tencent, with support from other investors including OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant and Tobias Lutke’s family office. W4 Games added that this latest Series B round brings its total funding raised to date to $33 million.
Alongside the funding round, W4 Games has signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Tencent to help scale its business and the Godot ecosystem in Asia. Under the agreement, the two companies will work to expand the reach of Godot Engine among enterprises, video game studios and developers across the region, including through go-to-market initiatives, localization, ecosystem support, advocacy and market development.
“This collaboration with Tencent marks an important next step for W4 Games as we expand globally and bring Godot to more studios and developers,” said Nicola Farronato, Co-CEO of W4 Games. “With Tencent as both a strategic partner and an investor, we have an opportunity to accelerate the adoption of enterprise-ready Godot technologies, particularly in Asia, while continuing to strengthen the open-source ecosystem that sits at the heart of everything we do.”
W4 Games was founded by core Godot developers and contributors to bring Godot Engine to the enterprise market. According to the company, its work spans XR and immersive technologies, including engine-level OpenXR and Android XR support, alongside professional services for Godot adoption and production, platform and console porting, and premium support for enterprise teams running Godot in production.
Godot Engine is an open-source video game engine that offers flexible, permissive licensing. According to W4 Games, the engine has emerged as a “leading open-source alternative” to proprietary video game engines, and is supported by a rapidly expanding global developer community.
“Over the past few years, Godot has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing game engine technologies, with W4 Games at the forefront of its adoption by major studios and enterprises.” said Juan Linietsky, W4 Games founder and Godot Engine creator. “We’re excited to work with Tencent to build on the momentum and further establish Godot Engine as a leading platform for companies creating the next generation of video games.”
SteamDB data shows the number of Godot games published on Steam grew by more than 50% year-on-year in both 2024 and 2025. W4 Games also stated that its own analysis of Gamalytic data indicated the number of Godot games generating more than $1 million in annual sales has risen from two to more than 50 in the past three years.
W4 Games stated that it expects its contribution to the Godot Engine project to continue growing alongside its enterprise business. The company added that improvements developed through its work with enterprise customers are, wherever possible, contributed upstream to Godot, so as to benefit the wider developer community.
